Sonoma Coast Volunteer Stewardship Programs: Sonoma Coast Trail Crew

The Sonoma Coast Trail Crew was started in 2006 in response to a great need for additional trail maintenance at Sonoma Coast SP. Many of the same volunteers who had been active on the Armstrong Redwoods Trail Crew for years were excited to add another day of trail work to their monthly schedule. Initial funding came from grants, which supplied volunteers with equipment needed to recontour trails, weed whack, remove poison oak and much more. Many volunteers have received specialized training from State Parks staff and are certified by State Parks to operate chain saws and other restricted equipment.

Stewards' Board President, Bill Bambrick has been coordinating the Sonoma Coast Trail Crew from the beginning and works closely with Sonoma Coast SP maintenance staff to plan and coordinate monthly trail activities. Currently, Sonoma Coast trail days are the fourth Wednesday of the month at 9:00 am. Once signed up, volunteers are notified where to meet each month.

New volunteers are required to attend one of the three General Orientation Sessions offered during the year. However, stewardship volunteers can sign-up for activities any time of the year and do not have to wait to attend an orientation before beginning to volunteer.
