Sonoma Coast Volunteer Education Programs: Docent-led Hikes

Sonoma Coast SP is a very popular place to hike with its exquisite and expansive coastal views. The Sonoma coast has fascinating geological and natural histories dating back millions of years. In more recent times, it has been the home to Native American groups and settlers who brought with them new cultures from around the world. Stewards offers on-site seminars and organized hikes to educate docents and the general public with the geological, natural and cultural histories of this park. Topics include: archeology, geology, flora and fauna, intertidal life, marine mammals, bird life, salmon restoration and the general history of the area.

Stewards schedules docent-led interpretive hikes periodically throughout the year on the Kortum Trail, the Pomo Trail and the Willow Creek Islands on the Sky Trail.

Potential docents are required to attend one of the three General Orientation Sessions, as well as one or more of the educational seminars offered annually.
