The Armstrong/Austin Creek Trail Crew has been assisting State Parks with trail maintenance, bridge building and other important projects since 1993. This active group, of men and women of all ages, comes together monthly. Under the expert leadership of Laura Parent and Felix Macias, State Parks maintenance staff, this crew makes a huge contribution. Volunteers may receive specialized training so they can operate restricted equipment, such as chain saws.
The crew meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 9:00am at the park maintenance area. Their assignment for the day may be working in the grove repairing fences or cleaning up and ensuring the safety of the trails. Other days, they may take their lunches with them to the beautiful backcountry for a day of trail maintenance. No matter how difficult the workday has been, the crew always comes back with smiles on their faces, eagerly looking forward to the next project.
New volunteers are required to attend one of the three General Orientation Sessions offered during the year, however stewardship volunteers can sign-up for activities any time of the year and don't have to wait to attend an orientation before beginning to volunteer.
