The Old Grove Festival

September 14, 2013
Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve

oldgrove08The Annual Old Grove Festival takes place at the historic Redwood Forest Theater in Armstrong Redwoods SNR. This beautiful open-air theatre was built in the 1930s. Concerts and theatrical events took place there for decades until the theater was closed in the 1980s out of concern for natural resource protection. In 2006, the theater was reopened for limited use. Event reservations are limited to alleviate environmental impacts and due to parking limitations.

The Old Grove Festival features an outstanding variety of musical and theatrical productions that help Stewards raise funds to support our educational and stewardship programs, as well as, continued advocacy for ALL State Parks.

Dan Hicks

DAN HICKS AND THE HOT LICKS
Singer-songwriter Dan Hicks is truly an American original. Since the early 1960s, Hicks has deftly blended elements of Swing, Jazz, Folk and Country music to create the appealing sound he sometimes calls "Folk Jazz".

The lyrics of his songs range from the simply sublime to the sublimely ridiculous, all presented with his uniquely skewed and inscrutable touch.

Dan's irresistible sense of rhythm, hip lyrical styling, laid-back vocalizing, and infamous on-stage wit will make most who listen fans for life. He's a snappy dresser, too.

ChiplingsThe Mighty Chiplings
The Mighty Chiplings began as a solo venture on the streets of Sebastopol. Marshall Thiessen and his banjo were soon joined by twin brother David on mandolin, a close friend Jesse Fichman on guitar, and last but not least another buddy Adrian Shader on the fiddle. A local legend, Chip Dunbar, coached the rowdy 11 year olds into the makings of a band. When Chip unexpectedly passed away, the name he dubbed them with stuck in memorial and the Mighty Chiplings were born.

gordon and doraziGordon and D'Orazi
When the talents of two accomplished performers "collide", the outcome can certainly be fantastic! The blending of Vikki's and Robby's natural musicianship "clicked" like magic and they started creating unique tunes in an effortless manner. The songs you will hear are mostly originals presented in the Folk, Country, Blues, Rock, Pop and other unique styles.
