michele4Greetings,

Our Annual Golf Tournament is coming up next week and we need to recruit more golfers by Tuesday, June 1st in order to put on this fun event. To register please call the Stewards office at (707) 869-9177 or email stewards@mcn.org. Your help passing the word would also be greatly appreciated.

Our State Parks are being threatened again! The Legislative Analyst's office is recommending a $22 million cut to the proposed $140 million in the Governor's budget proposal for 2010/2011. As we know, this means park closures. The California State Parks Foundation has posted an action alert campaign online at http://www.calparks.org/, asking park supporters to send a message to legislators. PLEASE HELP US continue the fight to keep our parks open until we can get the ballot measure passed in November. It only takes a moment.

Special thanks to Laura Parent for conducting a wonderful seminar on the Legacy of Marguerite Wildenhain on Saturday. Thanks Laura and Ruby for carrying on even though Breck Parkman couldn't attend due to illness. Our final training and seminar of the season will be a Seal Watch Training and Estuary Viewing by Kayak. Don't miss this opportunity to learn how important this protection program is to the harbor seals at the river mouth. Register early.

I am excited to tell you that tickets are now on sale for our Gourmet Hike and Art in the Park event on July 17th and the Old Grove Festival on September 24th and 25th. The Gourmet Hike sold out in 2009 so we are opening it up to about 50 more guests this year. The addition of Art in the Park is going to make this an event that you definitely don't want to miss. Visit our website for all the details. We are also very proud to present superb bluegrass with Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands on Friday night of the Old Grove Festival. During the day on Saturday we will be featuring some of our favorite local entertainers including The Fargo Brothers and The Thugz for only $10 per person. Saturday evening is going to be exceptional. We are thrilled to present "Aloha in the Grove" with a traditional hawaiian feast and the incomparable slack key guitarist Ledward Kaapana. Get your ticket soon.

Finally, I will bid you farewell for three weeks. I am fortunate to be taking a trip to visit family and the countryside of Italy. Believe it or not, it's raining there too.

Ciao,

Michele Luna, Executive Director
