After months of planning and focused work, we are almost ready to open Austin Creek's Bull Frog Pond Campground. Thank you to those of you who have been patient as we took the time needed to implement this new endeavor for Stewards. We are still waiting for a final contract however our Early Entry Permit gives us the needed permission to begin operating Austin Creek State Recreation Area.
In the past few weeks we have purchased a used truck and a new volunteer trail crew tool and equipment trailer. We are preparing for staffing and collecting fees at the Armstrong Redwoods entrance station, which is also the entrance for Austin Creek. We will employ the park aides who have been working for State Parks. Next is producing new signage and purchasing campground supplies. There are lots of details that have gone into transitioning Austin Creek to Stewards.
We are excited to open YOUR campground. The hazardous tree survey was completed last week with only one tree that needs to be taken down by a contractor. The other dead trees will be taken down by our volunteer trail crew who will also take care of the clean-up. We have opportunities for camp hosts who will help us by collecting fees, selling firewood, ice, fishing supplies and other camping amenities.
Camping fees will remain $25 a night with $8 for extra vehicles (3 max). Maximum number of people per site is 8. Check-in time is 2:00 pm and check out time is Noon. This is a first come, first served campground, although we will take reservations for groups who want to reserve 4 or more campsites together. Call or email for more information (707) 869-9177 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dogs are allowed in the campground on leash. They are allowed on paved roads, but NOT trails or service roads. Juveniles (under 18) must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
We invite and welcome everyone to camp at Bull Frog Pond campground. It is a sweet spot with fishing (with a license), access to 20 miles of hiking trails, backcountry swimming holes and magnificent views and flora and fauna. We are fostering a family-friendly atmosphere and we ask you to be respectful of your fellow campers and drink responsibly. Quiet time will be between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. Future plans include campfire programs, special group activities, guided hikes and more.
Stay tuned for a grand opening day when you can visit your campground for a potluck celebration with us.
