Thor Thoreson and Peter Deneen, former Pond Farm students, will demonstrate and explain Marguerite's sequential 'step' method of teaching throwing. This is a system she employed where one begins by learning to throw basic simple shapes on the wheel, then moves on to successively more complex and difficult forms. There are 16 shapes that are taught and as they progress, they learn to make a complete dinner ware set, pitchers, covered jars, cup and saucers, tea and coffee pots, plates, and bowls.
Both Thor and Peter have successful pottery businesses. They both studied under Dean Schwarz at Luther College in Iowa and with Marguerite Wildenhain in the 1970s.
The workshop will take place at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts at 282 S. High Street, Sebastopol. Space is limited. The cost includes clay and tools needed.
Reservations are required and non-refundable with less than 48 hours notice.
