PAINTER'S EDEN - A Plein Air event May4, 2008 to July 6, 2008
This event is taking place at Christopher Queen Galleries in Duncans Mills. All Proceeds from the sales benefit Stewards and EcoRing. The show will hang from May 4 to July 6th so come on out and take a look.

GOLF TOURNAMENT(pdf form) - Friday, June 6, 2008 - Join Stewards at the Northwood Golf Course for our annual golf tournament. It includes a gourmet BBQ lunch, 18 hole scramble and tee prizes. There will also be a wonderful raffle that you will not want to miss. We hope to see you on the green.

Saturday, July 19, 2008 - La Catrina - Latin Classical String Quartet - Founded in 2001, the La Catrina Quartet has a triple mission: to work closely with living composers in order to promote the performance of new music, to promote Mexican and Latin- American art music and toperform the masterworks of the string quartet repertoire. Its members have played as soloists with a variety of orchestras in Mexico and the United States and given recitals in Japan, England, the United States, and Mexico.

The award-winning and highly acclaimed group is quickly gaining accolades world-wide. “The La Catrina Quartet surely must be counted among the most promising young string quartets today. Every note the La Catrina plays is infused with energy, every gesture has a purpose and every phrase is meaningful. With internationally-acclaimed recording artist Denise Perrier out front on vocals, the Junius Courtney Big Band redefines the classics and presents originals as new as tomorrow morning. Its twenty-piece strength and forty-plus-years lifetime bring high-definition to the bandstand. Hailing from Alameda, California, the Sun Kings nail the feel and sound of the Beatles music from 1963 to 1970. Drawn together by a passion for Beatles music, and the love of performing it, the Sun Kings cover the entire spectrum of their recorded history.  The music of the Beatles is encoded into our collective DNA, and The Sun Kings bring the same joy and energy that makes their music so irresistible to the concert stage. This will be a great evening of Beatles hits and classic album cuts played just the way you remember them.  Bring the whole family for a wonderful evening of some of the world’s best-loved contemporary music.  


Saturday, September 13, 2008 - Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew -
Sonoma County Repertory Theater Celebrate the Rep’s 15th Anniversary with the Bard’s boisterous, side splitting, and politically incorrect battle of the sexes! Voted best theater company in 2005 and 2006 by the Northern California Bohemian readers’ poll, the Rep is fast becoming known for exceptional theater in intimate settings.

Greek Feast - September 13th - Armstrong Redwoods Group Picnic Area following the play -Last year’s popular post-show “Greek Feast” will return for an encore performance on September 13th following the conclusion of The Taming of the Shrew.  Join the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods for a delicious smorgasbord of tasty delights in the group picnic area following the play.  Contact the Stewards for details and reservations: 707-869-9177 X 00. Bodgea Seafood, Art, and Wine Festival - August 25 & 26, 2008, Watts Ranch in the town of Bodega
Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Sunday 10 am to 5 pm
Another exciting weekend of quality crafts, wine and micro beer tasting, eco-booths, and the “Great Fish Expedition.” Entertainment in 2007 was outstanding! Marcia Ball was featured on Saturday. Sunday afternoon the fabulous dance band Pride and Joy played. Fun for the entire family! Stewards is a beneficiary.

State Park Volunteer Opportunities and Trainings


Whale Watching at Bodega Head - January through May at Bodega Head in Bodega Bay. Whale Watching with a docent on Mondays can be arranged by contacting stewards@mcn.org.

Seal Watching at Goat Rock State Beach - Come visit Sonoma Counties largest harbor seal rookery at the Russian River mouth. Docents are available on the weekends from March through August. Seal Watching with a docent on weekdays can be arranged by contacting stewards@mcn.org.

Tidepooling on Sonoma Coast - There are many tidepool beaches on Sonoma Coast. Docents are available for special school group education programs. Visit our Tidepool Education page for reservation information, resources, and low tide dates and times. Roving naturalists are availalble to educate park visitors about how to enjoy the tidepools without destruction on low tide weekend. Low tide dates. Arrangements can be made for a special docent-led tour by filling out our reservation form.

Docent led tours at Armstrong Redwoods - Docents are available for special redwood ecology school group tours as well as adult group tours. Reserve early to schedule as the spring months are very busy. Visit our Redwood Ecology page for more information and teacher's guides.

Willow Creek watershed education program - A curriculum education program is available on a first come first serve basis in the Willow Creek watershed for school groups. The program includes a classroom visit and field activities. Visit our Watershed Education page for more information and teacher's guide.

Environmental Living Program- A two-day overnight camping experience, students travel back in time to learn about the four cultural groups that have lived and worked on the Sonoma Coast during the past two thousand years.Visit our Environmental Living Program page for more information and teacher's guide.

Customized interpretive activities and hikes at Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve, Austin Creek State Recreation Area, or Sonoma Coast State Park can be arranged through the Stewards office. Topics include: Whale Watching, Seal Watching, Tidepools, Wildflowers, Plant Identification, Shorebirds, and Redwood Ecology. ARMSTRONG GROVE DOCENT-LED SATURDAY HIKES
May through September: Noon, on Saturday's Meet in front of the Visitor Center (EASY) Bring your visiting family and friends out for a docent-led hike through the old growth giants at Armstrong Grove. Reservations not necessary.

WILLOW CREEK DOCENT LED HIKES WITH STEWARDS
First Saturday of the month - June through October, 10:30 a.m. Hiking Level: Strenuous
Meet less then 1 mile down Freezeout Road just west of the town of Duncans Mills off Moscow Road. Stewards and LandPaths are partnering to provide public access on this incredible new State Park acquisition on Sonoma Coast State Park. The purchase of this magnificent 3,373 acres of redwood forests and grassy meadows with coastal views was made possible through the efforts of the Trust for Public Land, the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, the California Coastal Conservancy, the Wildlife Conservation Board and California State Parks. Come on out to see and enjoy this property first hand. Learn about the flora, fauna,history and become acquainted with the recreational opportunities that will be available in the future. EcoRing is a community based nonprofit revitalization program that protects and celebrates the Russian River ecosystem while respecting the needs and views of the entire community. The goal is to stimulate the local economy while safeguarding our natural wonders.

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, a nonprofit organization supports the preservation of the State Parks in the Russian River District through education and stewardship programs.
